Synopsis:
Queer Story is a touching drama on homosexuality set in modern day urban Hong Kong. Law Kar Sing (George Lam) is a closeted forty year old marriage counselor who is mild-mannered and shy. His younger boyfriend Sonny (Jordan Chan) is open about his sexuality or what most might term, a flamboyant gay men.
While apparently having wildly divergent lifestyles, Law and Sunny is a loving couple in a stable relationship. However Law is deeply closeted and hides his relationship from his conservative father and friends. Sonny is initially willing to tolerate his lover’s desire for secrecy, but after awhile, he soon tires of his Law’s evasion and walks out of him. This forces Law to re-evaluate his take on coming out, and overcome his own fear of homophobic prejudices.
A Queer Story also features a stellar cast including Shu Qi, Anita Yuen, Francis Ng, Christine Ng, Kristy Yang. It is also hailed as one of Hong Kong’s overtly pro-gay film, which accurately depicts the difficulty that most Chinese gay men face in a conservative Asian culture that frowns about homosexuality in general.
