Twilight Dancers 2006

From the depths of a soft-focus blur. a gorgeous young man emerges. He is stripped of all clothing save for tight briefs, and gyrates slowly to the sensuous music. Then another nearly naked boys appears behind him, and then another. Soon the screen is filled with a bevy of oiled, sinuous bodies in motion all for the pleasure of the audience.

Twilight Dancers offers a disturbing yet a humorous look at the country’s social realities through the eyes of three macho dancers or male strippers. One of them is Dwight(Tyron Perez), young and at the peak of his trade who loses the girl he loves to a politician’s son.

Then there’s Alfred, who at 28, is past his prime and is kicked out of the club. Finally there’s Bert,30, who has long since given up dancing and is now the bodyguard-driver of a corrupt businesswoman.

Dwight (Tyron Perez) is currently the most popular performer at the gay club. However, he is considering to ditch his present macho dancer role to go abroad for better job prospects.

He unwisely gets involved with boytoy-hungry Madame Loca (Cherry Pie Pichache), a ruthless, corrupt businesswoman. Bert (Lauren Novero), her body-guard tries in vain to warn Dwight. Together with his part time lover Alfred (Allen Dizon), they negotiate the perils of the shady sex industry, to find achieve the goals.

But Bert’s boss, Madame Loca (Cherry Pie Picache), manipulates the events that push the three dancers to fight for survival, and to finally confront issues of love, friendship and betrayal.

The movie is interesting in that the shots of the boys dancing interlace with a look at their lives and the off-stage realities that face them. It’s not an easy life being a dancer but it is less easy being poor.
