Enter The Phoenix is a fun, comedy action film about rival gangs in Hong Kong. The leader of Hong Kong’s top triad, Hung (played by Yuen Biao) is very ill. He sends his trusted lieutenants to search for his son, Georgie. Gang master Hung intends to have Georgie inherit his position as the leader of the triad. Unbeknownst to Hung and the gang, Georgie is leading a very different life.

Hung’s lieutenants, Cheung and Chapman To, heads to Thailand to look for Georgie. They were shocked over what they found. Georgie is living a blissful domestic life with his partner Frankie. Goergie is living a happy and gay life, literally and figuratively. Georgie is very reluctant to go back to Hong Kong. He has no intentions of taking over his father’s leadership over the gang. However, Cheung and Chapman To are desperate and would not let Georgie continue his gay lifestyle. They decided to force Georgie to return to Hong Kong, but in the process, picked up the wrong guy instead. Instead of Georgie, they picked up, Sam, Georgie’s roommate. He readily accepts the position and eventually switches identities with Georgie.

Upon arriving in Hong Kong, Sam assumes Georgie’s roles and Georgie plays as Sam. In Hong Kong, they find that there is a brewing tension between Hung’s gang and Fai’s (Fai is portrayed by Chan Wai-Man) gang, a rival triad. There is an unresolved conflict between one of Fai’s gang members, Chow (played by Stephen Fung) and Hung. Chow still blames Hung over his father’s death which was caused over a tension between the two rivals several years ago. Although the conflict has been resolved, Chow has not yet forgiven Hung for the death of his father.

Meanwhile, Fai is adamant to strengthen the ties with Hung’s gang. He decides to arrange a marriage between his daughter, Julie and Georgie. However, Julie is not interested in Georgie (who is being played by Sam), but is interested in Sam (who is actually Georgie). Sam already agreed to the marriage proposal but changes his mind when he realizes that Julie is not in love with him.
The gang, with the joint efforts of Georgie, Sam and Julie was able to defeat Chow. They defeated Chow and told him to accept the fact that his father’s death was accidental. The movie has a happy ending with Chow accepting defeat, Sam and Julie falling in love and Georgie eventually taking over the gang’s leadership together with Sam.
