My Fair Son (2007)

An emotional gay life in China, MY FAIR SON tells the story of a father and a son trying to consistent their separate lives. Ray was raised by his grandfather and after having grown up with his grandfather Ray (Wang Junrui) a tall, thin and handsome young man returns and decided to live with his father. He always angry and got frustrated with his father’s middle class life styles and strict guidelines.

In the art section where Ray enrolled and make new friends and indulge into a relationship with a another guy. His dad surprise one morning to see two of the young guys naked in bed and after this leads him to understand his own feeling towards homosexuality. Further he also getting inclined towards homosexuality with having some fear of this relationship.

From the beginning sparks fly and Ray falls in love. Further when Ray meets Bo and Bo is to be married this puts to think Ray how they both get together and what his father will think? Bo who is already engaged and puts his professional life along with personal life in a great risk by getting involved in homosexual relationship. This film reveals a gay life in China in a different criteria as ever before.

My Fair Son is one of the interesting gay films in China. Director Cui Zi’en shows the actual look of this film how the mens involved in homosexuality in China. Director also shown a how and what impact is on Chinese regarding homosexuality in society and in families.  Chinese considered My Fair Son as an exploration into an area named as  taboo. A taboo is a strong social prohibition (or ban) relating to any area of human activity or social custom that is sacred based on moral judgment.
